My friend has recently purchased some bicentennial commemorative silver dollar coins from 1776-1976 that have painted wolves on them. I was just curious to see if the paintings decrease the coin's value?
Thanks

technically, that's considered PMD by coin collectors, but it could have interest to the general public. I bought a colored State Quarter because its my home state and I like the design. Other than as a novelty, mine has no value above the 25 cents.

A U.S. Bicenntennial with wolves?... The bicenntennials are made in clad, as well as the silver versions... Do you have any pics? I usually don't like enameled coins, but you've caught my curiosity...

In my opinion a "painted" coin is post mint damage to the numismatic eye but may have a premium to the general public. I recall finding a painted quarter in a roll one time.

They do sell a real lot for the general public. Remember not long ago Montel Williams was on TV selling coins with presidential stickers on them. Those too sold since the general public knows very little about real coins and what they are worth. Note how many times even here on a coin forum someone asks how much something is worth. Most people don't even know about price guides, where to buy or sell a coin, etc.
To many painted coins are worth more than the normal, every day, regular coins collectors want.

I have a couple painted coins (Morgan Peace ASE) that I got from buying a collection. I just put them away. I don't think it hurts the value since their value is mainly the silver content
