I know that for the Wisconsin quarter, there is a variety where the corncob has an extra leaf.

The list on the coin facts is very useful but where can I find a list with the errors and variants to look for preferably with pics and rarity?

The 2012 Red Book will be on sale in a few days.... Most every book store sells them. That will have everything you need to know about "Key dates" and most varieties. It has EVERY denomination ever made by every coin in United States history, right up to today. It lists, mintage numbers, has pictures of varieties, where to find mintmarks, etc. etc. And it lists approximate values of each listing, and the "Grade values", and it tells you generally how to grade a coin, pertaining to levels of condition and hence the different values. (I'd ignore the listed values though....they're only "approximate", and out of date by the time they're printed and released for sale)(which is obvious if the 2012 is being released this early !).. Anyway...... it's FULL of information......much of it is exactly what you're inquiring about. It's a "must-have", even for the most novice collector.

The listing for Lincoln Cents on the original post is far from complete. As already noted a really more complete list could be found on Quote:And try this, it is more comprehensive: http://www.coppercoins.com/ This is true of many other coins where there are more excessive listings of each type. For errors it is difficult to make a complete list since new types or errors are found almost every day. Making a list of so called KEY dated coins too is rather vague since so many are valuable only due to popularity. And too just where does KEY and SEMI KEY dated coins separate. Again, possibly mostly by popularity. Unless you go by that top 250 coin listings in the rear of the Red Book.

And of course the "Copper Hoarders" would want ALL " Pre-1982" Cents on that list ! ........ Different individuals can have COMPLETELY different "lists" on what they save and look for while roll searching ! What's semi-valuable to one person, may be meaningless and completely undesirable to another person. Some "key dates or semi-key dates" are only valuable in HIGHER GRADES too.....meaning....many collectors will just "throw back" highly circulated versions that just don't make the grade for them. That's why I suggested the " Red Book"......in there, you can glean your own information and decide what you want to "save" and what you don't want to save.

Another reason to collect what you like, as pointed out above, the popularity factor. If it were I, I would try seeking out varieties that no one has found before also.
