Wait until April 19th. That's when ebay is implementing free listings and free buy-it-now. Everyone and their uncle will put some coins up with a maybe it'll sell attitude. Why not? After all the listing will be free. Another change will be that the final value fee will include shipping. No more 99c coins with a $4.99 shipping fee to save the seller some money. Let's see what happens.

Yeah, I'm pretty worried it'll be flooded with overpriced items. No incentive for a quick sale... Might as well price super high and gradually drop prices.

Yes, I'm afraid the free listing promotion will lead to even more ridiculously overpriced BIN junk, just like on the local Craigslists.
Frankly, it's already hard to search for coins I want what with Chinese fakes, shipping gougers, idiots listing in the wrong category, and whacko "R-A-R-E Roosevelt dollar!" sellers.

I search ebay frequently for some IHC varities and such. It's hard enough finding some coins, but when you do, there is usually a BIN that is way too much, usually $80-$100 over retail estimates. It's extremely annoying and frustrating to search through all of that junk. But they do it for a reason, as I'm sure eventually someone will buy it.

I am personally glad of this, just because now its a lot cheaper to post ads. Saves me some money. But I agree there will be more scammers than before

This idiot doesn't have a choice. I'll still have to sell...if I want to...on ebay.

Having never sold on ebay, I'm a bit confused about this "listing fee"? isn't the only fee e-bay charges the 9% of the total selling price? Is there a fee just to list an item for sale even if it dosent sell?

Normally without special promotions there is a listing fee (for items $1 and above), a buy it now fee, a final value fee and a paypal fee, ergo the name ebay.

And the special promotion starts April 19th? Which fees are excluded?

Quote: And the special promotion starts April 19th? Which fees are excluded? I don't think it is supposed to be a special promotion, I think this is supposed to be their new regular fee structure until they decide to make another change.

AFAIK this is not happening in Europe yet. We'll continue with the higher fees and higher postal charges until ebay decide differently.

I've reached the point where I tend use the 'advanced' search feature on ebay to only look for coins that are being sold via an auction style format. That way, I weed out the hundreds of (laughable) BIN sales that clutter up searches and add pages and pages of results to my hunt. Granted, that sometimes means that I don't see the occassional Buy-It-Now deal...but then that seems to be pretty rare anyway.
