A teller's friend has some original Dunbar and NF String & Son rolls of State Quarters (P mints). I checked around with the 2 folks locally and they are not interested in any and one of them told me not to pay any premium unless there are Ohio, Illinois, California, Connecticut and Tennessee. Is this correct?

Initially I was thinking about buying some of the rolls but now I am thinking it's not worth the effort to tie up cash into this lot.

This person has about 30 to 35 original rolls and thinks they are worth a premium and is looking for such. Later today I am supposed to get a listing of the states.

Would appreciate some input from folks who know this area well.

Thanks

Personally I would not give more than $10 a roll for them. I am not at all fond of them. To me they are just change jug fodder.

This is a hard question. In my opinion .....

When putting away State Quarters... the ones that will have value in the future
will be the very high grade examples. MS66 or better.

In my experience the mint rolls have better quality coins.
I have bought many mint rolls at or near face value.

I do believe there are some rolls that are harder to find and are trading
above face value. In my experience the hard ones are

P and D rolls - GA, CT, TN and IL

If it helps grey sheet has Bid roll prices (Feb,25 CDN)
GA - P $22.00, GA - D $24.00
CT - P $20.00, CT - D $21.00
TN - P $24.00, TN - D $33.00
IL - P $32.00, IL - D $38.00

You asked about CA and OH
CA - P $16.50, CA - D $18.00
OH - P $18.00, OH - D $18.00

I think that some of the roll prices are higher, because it is hard to find
certain states in higher grade. And some are just harder to find, like IL,
because a lot of IL quarters were used to make Obama coins.

I do have to say that most dealers do not want to purchase rolls of state
quarters.

Thanks for the info - I am going to pass up on this as it confirms what I was told. I did check ebay as well.

I too have heard the better quality coins are in the mint rolls.

I'm glad that I have a few of those States in String & Son wrapped BU bank rolls. I got mine for face value directly from the bank.

Don't have any "Mint wrapped" State Qtrs. though.....

But yeah, I too would not pay any "premium" over face value for the State Qtrs. at this point.
I went to a coin auction a couple years ago.....they had gobs of these String & Son bank rolls on it....... almost ALL OF THEM went for face value at $10.00 a roll ! .....
No reason for that to change anytime soon IMO.

By the way.....anybody know when/why did "Deleware" and "South Carolina" dissappear from the "top list" of State Qtrs. to have in high MS grades ?
