I have a coin that has me baffled. The only thing on it that seems remotely English is the number 1. I don't recognize the script, but I'm thinking it's middle eastern maybe. I don't even know the date, though I am guessing it's not really too old. Sorry I didn't get a better picture of it, especially the blurry one of the backside. I can try for a better one if it helps identify it. Bad lighting situation when I took those. Thanks for any help.

A blurry picture is better then no picture at all. Go ahead and post it. It's a challenge for most of us here anyways

This is a Japanese 1 Yen coin. The date in under the denomination written in Japanese characters and numbers.
You read from left to right, and the first two characters show the era, in this case the Shōwa era. The next three characters are the numbers, 5-10-5, which equals 55. The last character simply means Year. So, now we now that this is from the Shōwa era, and year 55. (This means that the Shōwa era has been going for 55 years). Since year 1 in the Shōwa era equals 1929, we now simply add the 54 more years. So 1929+54=1983.
Now we have the full answer. Japan, 1 Yen, Year 1983!

Just to be more clear. If the year would have been 1, it would have been made 1929. Year 2 is 1930. So if you, like in this case, have year 55 you just remove 1 and add 54 with 1929 to get the year of issue.
To make it even more easy. Say that year 2000 is year 1, then year 2 is 2001 and year 35 is 2034.
Hope it makes sence! :)

This one is Thailand, 1 Baht. The year is written in Thai numerals. First you have a two letter prefix, in this case B.E. (Buddhist Era). This prefix tells you to remove 543 from the sum of the numbers. When I add the numbers I'll get 2548. Now I just have to remove 543 to get the actual year of issue. So, 2548-543=2005
Now I know that you have a Thai coin, 1 Baht from 2005!
