Im mainly a penny roll searcher and was just wondering what's still available out there. I know I'll probably never find a Flying Eagle cent but what's in your opinion the best coin I could still find out there? What have you found or heard has been found in penny rolls? Any chance of a 1859- 1879 Indian Head cents still out there? Thanks

the best you could find would be the 1969 S DDO, 1070 S DDO, 1992 CAM, and 1992 D CAM

That would depend highly upon an individual's perspective of what "best" is.

amadeusbojiuc: are you talking about age of a coin only or not? because there are many many varieties of coins out there that may not be old at all but worth a lot.

I keep dreaming I am going to find a double die. You never know what lurks in those rolls. Found two 43 Steel wheats yesterday.

The oldest cent I've found was an 1888 Indian. I've also found a couple Liberty Head nickels while roll searching. Point is, there is still plenty of good stuff out there waiting to be found.

Oldest I've found so far has been 2 1910 P Lincolns. One I think would grade about G6 the other perhaps Fine.

There are probably still lots of rare coins out there. If you look statistically, there almost has to be a few 1909s vdb, 1914d etc. People may cash in an old coin collection not knowing what they have. The issue is there may be 10k of X rare coin out there, but that's out of billion and billions of coins in circulation. You might have a better chance of winning the lottery.

One of my favorite and best roll finds was my 1984 double ear penny I found a few months back while coin roll hunting.

Forum member bournepiper found a 1992 CAM, which was only the fifth example known. That's a rare coin. Other forum members have found the 1983 DDR, which is a real dandy. Older key date coins are possible too. I found a 1921-S Buffalo nickel in with a nice full date (about G6 or so). People have found 1909-SVDB in the past (and apparently dealers and shows will occasionally throw one into circulation as a promotion). A few years ago a CCF member found an entirely new major 1982 DDR. There are a few things that I think are borderline impossible. No new example of the 1969-S has appeared decades and the last ones were from original rolls, not circulation. Likewise, don't expect there's a 1955 doubled die out there waiting for you. You'll want to get excited about the smaller finds too. The 1995 DDO is quite common (maybe a $20 coin in the condition you're likely to find it in), but it's a spectacular variety nonetheless. There are lots of varieties that are worth five or ten bucks. There are some nice 2011 doubled dies which you can still find in really nice condition, and they're going for $20 or so on ebay.

I've been searching cent rolls for years, and I have made a number of good finds. Four 1984 Doubled Ears, three 1999 WAM's, a 1909s, a 1924d, three 1995 DDO's, three 1997 Doubled Ears, and a handful of others with values over $100. My oldest was an 1892 Indian (two of them, a number of years apart). There are definitely good things still out there to be found, you just have to make the effort! Don't get discouraged if you go many weeks without a substantial find; the good stuff wouldn't be worth so much if it was easy to find.
