I'm going to a friends auction in a couple weeks and she showed me some photo's of some coins and paper money that were available. I have two questions...Canadian silver runs up to '67, when does US silver stop? and...How badly does writing on a bill reduce its value. I ask because this Devils Face apparently is in otherwise exceptional condition...not to mention being improperly cut (the top edge). (I'm hoping the writing is on the case and not the bill but I doubt it) Edited by TwoCentsWorth 04/17/2011 12:29 am

Unfortunately the stamp does affect the price. However, the placement of this one is kind of cool, framing the devil's head. You certainly won't get top dollar for it, but someone might take a liking to the way the stamp is situated and you'll get a decent price.
What is that red blotch at the bottom of the note?
1964 was the last year for silver (business strike) coins.

I suspect the box was photoshopped to show de debbil. The red stain hurts. Writing at top looks like it's on a white paper, not the bill.

Thanks for the US silver info guys. I have a close up of that unfortunate box over the devils face...It really looks like its on the bill but it would be nice if it was photo-shopped. And it does appear there is some red ink on the bill.

That sure looks like something drawn with a ballpoint pen!

US silver coins ended in 1964 with the exception of the Kennedy half dollars. Their silver content was lowered to 40% up until 1969.

Actually, 10 and 25 cent pieces in 1968 were initially 50% silver, and then they converted to nickel. About half the 1967 10c/25c were 50% (half 80%).

I'd say overall the bill is damaged and any money spent on this example would be wasted. Drawing a box around HRH's head in ink seems a little too distracting to just let go. This isn't a teller's initials we are talking about.
