twoplustwo, actually it was something I put together in a couple of evenings.
Yes, that's what I do.... as I get a coin I check it off the list. Errors are something I don't bother to add as there are so many and the descriptions can be vague.
I've made up lists like this for American, Canadian, Australian coins and am working on a UK listing. It's nice to have something to refer to when I'm in the coin shop digging through their foreign box or at a show and don't want to tote along a book.
My Canadian collection:
cent 1859-2011
nickels 1922-2011
dimes 1937-2011
quarters, half dollars, dollars/loonies 1968-2011
toonies 1996-2011
.... is almost complete so I have a lot of "x's" on the lines next to the coins. Now I'm working on early coins so a checklist is handy. Lately I've been adding a lot of silver, Provincial, and early tokens to my collection. I still have to get one of those $5 Silver Maple Leaf coins but with the price of silver very high I'll wait a bit.
The_Duke, I have my small cents, nickels, dimes and quarters in Uni-Safe folders. The large cents, half dollars, Voyageur dollars, loonies, toonies, Provincial coins & tokens I have in 2x2's in a few of those long red boxes made for 2x2's.... (I don't know if they have a name for the boxes).
It's always something to keep me busy.
