Ok so I can't sleep and I was flipping through the channels when I found the coin vault. I usually skip right over this because the prices are insane, but figured it might bore me enough that I would fall asleep. Well it didn't. So they are selling Peace dollar sets and I don't know alot about them but they had the 24 coin set of them in a Dansco Album for 1699.00. I looked in my RedBook and that actually looked like a fair price. (I assumed they were all AU or better in grade) Anyways I wanted the opinion of the CCF members on this. (I am not going to buy them but maybe in the future I won't dismiss everything they have on that channel.)

that works out to $70.79 per coin. Granted some date(s) may be worth that, but you can buy many Peace dollars online BU around $45

Quote: I assumed they were all AU or better in grade That was your first mistake. The quoted price amounts to $71 per coin. Few Peace dollars indeed are worth $71 in AU. 1921, 1928-P, 1934-S maybe.

Most likely you will get largely well circulated coins for that price. I'd say 21 of 24 coins are conasidered commons even in higher grades, so that ~$35 x 21= 735 for those. The 1928 can run 300-600 I think, the 1921 about $100 in lower grades and the 34-S a little less. You can put this set together for maybe $1100-1300 range.

And that was your second, RedBook can be used as a reference guide but not a definite answer on a price guide. Their prices are usually quote a bit off

I didn't buy them I just wanted to see how far off they were on prices. I just used the AU grade because I couldn't see them that well on TV and I wanted to see how much roughly each piece would be. Thanks for the input though.

A set of Peace dollars accurately graded AU would cost a person just about $4,000.00 according to current Coin World prices. ANA LM-3175

the Vault is a scam....there prices are way over the top...they may list 10-20 coins and only one or two are worth something and the rest is a gamble not worth taking....note that the Red Book is supposed to be the current estimated RETAIL value not what you could sell it for...unless you holding it for 20 years I won't pay retail for anything....unless I simply need the coin, and then it would have to be a nice VAM to offset the investment..
