I was looking for junk silver at melt and ran across this. I don't usually buy slabbed coins, I got this one under melt shipped after rebates and ebay bucks. The slab looks funny to me, I thought the coins were given a numerical grade as well. What do you'll think? Is it legit?

It might be a different generation slab....but an AU grade will usually be AU-## not all spelled out on a NGC. Having it off-center is kinda bothering me, but I'm not sure why you'd go through the trouble to fake a common date.

Anyone know NGC better to say if this is genuine?

Uhmm... yeah. I'm not sure about that slab. The coin was pretty clearly cleaned or it may just be... something else. Let us know when you have it in hand and take a couple of other pictures! =)

*fingers crossed*

NGC did that "Almost Uncirculated" thing ad nauseam for the shop-at-home networks. I see no reason to doubt the slab - they did bazillions of them by way of selling themselves out for business. The grade should be reliable - expect AU50 rather than AU58 - but you could have thrown $35 at a whole bunch of much less rewarding possibilities.

I agree with SuperDave, these were bulk submissions and they would grade the AU coins just AU and anything under MS-65 a Uncirculated or Brilliant Uncirculated for a cheaper price than they would charge to actually grade the coins for people like the shop at home networks. All that aside its a reputable TPG so you know its at l;east AU-50 and you got it for just silver content so you did well on the purchase.

I've seen far worse Morgan and Peace dollars go for more than that.

Thanks for the answers. The spelled out "almost uncirculated" had me a little puzzled, but the bulk submission explanation makes a lot of sense
