this came from the same collection as the 1920 SLQ I just bought. Take notice of the 2 faint scratches and 2 dings on the obverse. The one on the neck looks more like a white streak in the picture.

I agree with wheezydog. Looks like XF/AU details with a couple minor problems. It's an attractive coin.

Great coin, XF-40 for wear on Eagle's breast and some obverse wear. Cleaned harshly on the reverse. Still an amazing coin for a twenty cent-er!

The Philly mint 20-centers are my favorites. Quite a sleeper.

Recent XF Details pieces have sold for around $300 at auction.

What is that mark on the neck that goes vertical from neckline to jaw? One thing that a lot of people would look at would be LIBERTY as this is raised on the 20 cent pc rather than incised as on all other Seated Liberty coins. It is a high point of wear and yours is nice and sharp. The detail in the head of liberty and the eagle feathers is excellent. I would venture to say better than average strike. The lighting looks to be incandescent or photoshop warmified. This makes it difficult to tell just how "white" and washed out it is rather than showing what luster might remain had it not been cleaned. That's why I think it was cleaned long ago, since it looks like it is getting toned. The scratches are kinda minor as long as that one I ask about on the neck is not a fresh gouge. I think it is hard to say what it is worth because I don't think we are seeing an accurate image of it and a couple questions remain. Numismedia has these prices F12 258 VF20 294 XF40 438 AU50 552 I'm gonna guess, your coin has some kind of shallow gouge there which is a minus for sure, I expect there is no luster showing and it has a slight grey toning. I could see a $275.00 price tag on a coin like this and could see it let go for about $225.00 to $240.00 range after some dickerin' if what I see is close to what it looks like in hand. It's no slouch! A very cool 20 center for sure!

Wheezydog, that white streak is a dig or gouge in the coin. If you look at the one on her right arm it is about the same depth and width but 3x as long. I'm torn on what to do with this coin.....to the naked eye it is gorgeous! under a 10x loup I see the 2 gouges/marks but not the cleaning so much. If I keep it I would swap it for the 1875S in my type set which is a problem free VF20 or so coin. I just think with this being a tougher to find Philly coin it should go to a collector that is working on a full set.

Hey it's not that bad, I think it is a wonderful coin. If you focus on those shortcomings, then you will be disappointed. Overall it is a really nice coin. It just depends how you look at things. If it is going into your type set, ask yourself if you are going to look at it's faults every time and feel bad or look at a VF 1875 S and like it?
