i believe I found a 2001 cent struck on a dime planchet, now if my memory is correct all 1982 - to date have zinc core copper codding, and dimes has copper core with zinc codding well I will post pics tomorrow but I can see a solid band of copper on the rim, and the copper finish looks to be Waring off. let me know if you have hard about or see one of these.

Okay, I have no clue what "codding" means...except to go fishing for cod.

Zinc cents are 100% zinc plated in copper.

Dimes are clad. This is not "plating" at all, it is two sheets of nickel sandwiched with a sheet of copper, bonded together with extreme force.

The others were correct that if you truly have a cent on a dime it will weigh what a dime should weigh.

Looks to me much more like a damaged coin.

The 'strip' of copper you see is an unaffected area of the edge of the normal coin. The rounded effect and exposed zinc along the outside areas of the edge show that the coin was rolled and rolled and rolled in some sort of groove until the sharp edges wore down to round. The scraped off copper plating on the obverse are a result of that same effect.

I would say the damage was likely caused by the coin being stuck inside a machine that rotates - probably somehow related to a commercial clothes dryer.
