So I've been working on my large cent set, and I wanted to get the hardest one out the way. I personally think I might have overpaid a bit, but am very satisfied with my first big coin purchase either way. What do you all think ? I wasn't really aiming for a flawless example, but I felt this was the one. Opinions on grade? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

Not trying to be mean, but that is definately not uncirculated... VF, but pretty close to XF but not quite there... A little overpriced, but not to the point that you got ripped off...Nice coin though, I like it, but if you like it, that's all that matters...

Much better than F to VF, looks AU to me.

Nice looking coin! Definitely looks better than F to VF to me. I would say EF seems pretty close.

No offense taken Darth, I didn't bid on the basis of it being uncirculated. I would personally say it appears to be XF or AU, although I am no grader by any means. I have been watching these for a couple weeks now and I felt that this coin was the one. I did some surfing on prior sales and noticed I paid $10-20 more than some other examples, but I didn't like the look of those. Appreciate the feedback guys. Wanted to add this for my own learning experience, I notice a slight discoloration around the stars on the obv and near the wreath on the reverse. It looks like it was cleaned at one point but it doesn't appear to be harshly done, that fair to say? I noticed the dings on the rim and the date, but they're not too severe where it bothers me.

I think if you had a complete set of large cents ... that looked just like that..
then you would have a very very nice looking set ..

Excellent coin if it makes you happy. The nature of our hobby is that each of us chooses their joy ... I like this one as well ... David

I like it... the color is a little questionable to me, but I dont see any obvious evidence of being recolored... Seems to have decent luster left. Certainly looks AU to me.. Very strong detail on the hair around LIBERTY.. I think the scratches would probably not result in a details slab if you were to grade it because they tend to be more lenient with older series like large cents.
Nice pickup.

The coin grades EF I'd say. Send it to PCGS or something.

Very nice looking coin. I would think it is on the high side of VF or better, but I am not a dedicated grader. I would certainly welcome it in my collection.
