I have a great looking UNC 1864 Two Cent Piece in my Type Set and just noticed that both the obverse and reverse have the same orientation. When I flip the coin, the side is upside down vice right side up. Is this the way they were minted or do I have a 180 degree out coin? Thanks! Paleoguy

I know that rotated reverses are more commonly found on Two Cent Pieces. Do you have a pic?

Here's the coin. It's a perfect 180 degrees "out of phase"

Very common for 1864 2-centers.

There is at least one very common die variety of 1864 that almost always comes with a 180 degree rotation.

Yes, rotated dies are quite common for that year. There are collectors who are willing to pay a premium for these though. One can also find 1864 BR Indian cents with up to a 180 degree rotation.
