I've found an
Indian Head cent, and a
Liberty nickel in bank rolls before, but nothing older than that.
I know a few people here have found various
Barber coinage in rolls, and I don't think you'll more than a couple people who have found anything older than that. The chances are ridiculously low, and several times moreso when it comes to gold.
Also, I think you might find a large cent is a bit too large to fit in a quarter roll.
EDIT: One more issue is that when it comes to old old American coins, the sizes have not been uniform throughout the years.
Shield nickels and
Flying Eagle cents differ slightly in thickness and diameter to their more modern counterparts, which means they get rejected from the machine wrapped rolls and coin counters. If I'm not mistaken, Bust coinage is slightly larger than the current size as well.
