Any idea of how to get CWR of halves? And uh...how to tell they're CWR? I mostly look around the big three banks in my area BofA, Wells Fargo, and Chase. The halve rolls I get usually come in a tight white wrapping with crimping at one end that looks and feels like a machine wrap. Or a brownish paper wrapping with some words sloppily printed on it. I don't think either are CWRs because the teller hinted that they wrap some in the brownish paper rolls themselves. I also asked for rolls around a few credit unions but I've been refused at every one.

You have to keep asking until you find a bank that has them. I don't deal with the large banks in my area as they all have coinstars and do not accept CWR nor will they sell the bags from the coinstar. It took me about 2 months of going to different small branches in the area to get several banks lined up. Most of the smaller branches may not have a coinstar, so customers have to wrap before bringing them in. And the vault teller in the small banks is more than happy to get rid of the rolls customers wrap so she doesn't have to package and send coins out so often. The banks I deal with don't wrap anything so if they are not in the tight crimped end tubes they are cwr. Also do not dump at your supply bank, as far as my tellers know I keep all the coins I get. I dump at my credit union which has their own coin star and does not charge a fee to use it.

Halves haven't been used in commerce most places since the 70s.

If people don't get them in change to toss in their change stash, where do you think cwr are going to come from?

If you find a bunch of CWR, you may have found someones dump, because of what bigfredd mentioned. But if you are lucky you could stumble upon someones collection that was turned into the bank not knowing what they had.

I figured that cwr for halves would come from dumps but I keep hearing people go on about the fabulous luck they have with CWR halves and I'm wondering how they're avoiding this.

Here I've only seen one coin counter at a school credit union. No other bank or financial institution seems to have one (in the open at least) so its going to be difficult to find a place to dump regularly. The coinstars that are around tend to be in supermarkets or drugstores and well you all know about the ripoff prices. .

I've found several solid silver rolls of halves in the last year. The other poster was right, halves just aren't used in commerce much anymore. It all depends on luck....getting to the line soon after someone dumps a collection....get there before someone else does....which may mean weekly visits to the bank. Some banks will not see halves come in, period.

Do you just come into the bank and say I want customer wrapped rolls or do you just say I want rolls? When I ask its usually from the tray or they get one of those sucky machine wrapped rolls.
