I think this will be fun AND may just give others here an idea, or a way, to become more efficient in the way they seach.

Here's my crude way of going through pennies. I've only been doing it for a few months so no laughing....

1) Pile up the pennies on one end.
2) Slide the over and look at them under the glass
3) Determine which blue bin they go in (Junk copper / Non-junk) - just have to slide them in off of the desk.
4) Pennies going back to the bank just sit on the left side of the white box.
5) You can see dollar tubes with dates on them all around my desk. I put the dates I seach in these tubes without looking at them.
6) Once a tube gets filled, I put them in bags (2nd pic).
7) The BU stuff I put into tubes for later inspection as well. (2nd pic)
8) When a bag gets full, I just have one date to go through quickly looking at the same area each time rather than stop and look at every coin which I think would take forever. Plus, I don't know what to look for anyway. Have to go online and bring the date up to find the identifiers.

The light I have there is adjustible so I can use any angle I need it at. It helps a lot when taking pics of a single coin.

And now you kn ow my secret.... What's yours.

Man, you're waaaaaay too organized!

I have a flat box that I pour the contents of the rolls into. I do a quick scan for interesting items, pull them out, do a quick stir, if nothing else, I dump them in a shoebox. I continue this until all the rolls are done.

Then I examine the coins I pulled out and keep the interesting ones.

Sometime later, I check each and every coin in the shoebox, sorting out the copper.

Then I roll the rejects.

Mine looks exactly like yours! Except coins are all over the place and the bins and tubes sit unused in a box hehe. I really need to get organized.

I have a large magnifying glass that I look at coins first. I can usually find the major errors/varieties with it. I sort all BU coins by year and then check them under a stereo microscope. I use a plastic bin from Lowes to sort the coins by years. When the drawer is full it is time to look at each coin under the microscope. I place each coin of interest in a 2X2 and file. I also keep an excel file of all coins found listed by coppercoins, crawford, wexler and/or traildies. What someone needs to come up with is a cross reference for all of these. I try to file all error/variety coins by year and number.

Who needs a coin sorting machine when you are set up as well as that!?

Perhaps a bank could employ you in this role, on a part time basis! You keep the rare ones, they get their coins sorted.

Just pipe dreamin'!

LOL. I didn't, either, when I started.

Peaceman, you're a model of efficiency. You'll narrow down your focus, as you go along. Great way to start off, though.
