Hello again,

My eye for identifying doubled dies is improving and with that so are my rates for finding cool stuff! I was sure that this was a class 6 doubled die the minute I saw it, but the best part was checking Coppercoins and finding an immediate match! 1984P-1DO-007:

I could not get decent images of the obverse and reverse using my microscope so I am only posting close up shots of the critical die markers.

Once again, thanks to Chuck Daughtrey et al. and Coppercoins for providing hours of fun

Happy hunting everyone!

Nice find. Good eyes too. This is not one I search for because it is too difficult for me too spot.

It wouldn't be too difficult to spot if you pay attention to what normal coins look like. Nobody who does this with experience looks FOR anything in particular. They look for ANYTHING that doesn't fit the mold of a normal coin.

The letters of LIBERTY are way too thick to be anything close to normal on this coin, thus it is definitely something different. The OP looked on my site after he found it and identified it using the site. I highly doubt he went out searching for JUST this doubled die.

Had to delete what I actually wrote...

I've never ever heard anyone who made a donation actually complain about making it.

Why not take this up with him off the board...

Ha Ha Chuck, you were certainly right.

This die was not even on my list to search for, but as you said, the extra thickness on Liberty just did not look normal and jumped right out at me. If I had looked at this coin even one year ago, I would have seen nothing and chucked it in the reject pile.

This should be a lesson to all of us. You can "teach an old dog new tricks!" I have been coin collecting for over 30 years, but thanks to the help of all the great people on this site, I have learned more in the past year than the other 30 combined! Thanks goes to all of you!

As for the other subject. Regardless who actually does the work, Coppercoins.com is simply the best site on the internet for identifying variety coins! It has been single handily responsible for increasing my enjoyment of this hobby ten fold! I have made so many good finds that I feel guilty using it even though it is still a free site. I have sent Chuck a few extra bucks, but I feel he deserves so much more.

I understand that you want to know where your money is going Liveanddie, but I trust Chuck to do what is right for his people.

That's about all I will say as I have two more bag's of cents to get through! Happy hunting everyone!
