I bought a lot from someone who inherited them, in it there is what seems to be a quarter eagle from 1904 but the size is of (14mm), and also are the digits (it is not the typical 9 and 4 found on other pictures).

I live in south america so a quarter eagle could pass unnoticed, the previous owner thought it was a 1904 dime.

Can anyone tell me if it is a quarter eagle, or how can I test it? Thank you.

Wow, that thing is not even close to being a genuine quarter eagle. I have serious doubts that it is a contemporary counterfeit for use in the US, it is just too crude for it to have not been noticed in circulation and destroyed. However, it is possible that it is a counterfeit meant to imitate a US quarter eagle and be used in a South American country where the real design would not have been familiar.

Well, I'm no expert, but I've never seen a date like that. The shape of the numerals is completely wrong. I don't think you could explain it away as a bad strike either. I'm not buying the shape of the lettering either. Hope you didn't pay much for it and can send it back. Once again it's just my humble opinion but you need to pick up book on gold coin counterfeiting examples. Whitman has a good one and it give you the basics.

The only thing is that we don't use dollars as our currency and most collector don't collect US coins. The border is even dented, I don't know where this could have comed from.

If you look at it closely it even has the O mint mark under the eagle.

That's one of the worst looking fakes I've ever seen... Looks like a junior high art project (and that's giving it credit as far asI see it)

I think this is a novelty item, probably not meant to fool anyone into thinking that it's the real thing. Even in other countries where they may not be familiar with the design, it would be quickly spotted as not being a solid gold coin.
