I noticed a thread in the wanted to buy section that dealt with "impaired" Kennedy halves and because I do not have 250 posts I could not ask my question there....this may be a dumb question but I was clueless so looking for some guidance
-What is an "impaired" coin and how can you tell if you found an impaired coin or just a good looking coin for circulation?
thanks in advance!

Normally when they talk about impaired they are talking about proofs that have made it to circulation or at least have some sort of damage. Then they are impaired proofs.

Usually the fields are mirror-like, and the main devices have a frosty look... On U.S. coins, the modern proofs will have the S (San Francisco) mint mark...

Yes, impaired proofs are ones that have seen circulation or they have been "cleaned" thus containing hairlines and minute scratches and/or dings.

Yeah, normally that's a term associated with the look of circulated proofs.
