I found this note in a collection I receive from a friend. As I can understand the note is well circulated. So my question is if this note is still legal tender in Canada so I can change it at the local Central Bank here.?

Yes, you can still spend this in Canada, but it's too nice to do that.

Don't be in such a hurry to get rid of it, I am researching it and it may be a replacement note, if so there were only 240,000 est by the book. I will let you know when I have finished or if anyone else can help, please do. thanks.

I Remember when these were fist issued b/c they are probably the prettiest note I have ever seen. I have a feeling in years to come these will command a premium just for the artwork involved. I wish I had gotten and kept a few crisp one from the bank back then.

When these came out, they were nicknamed the "horse's a**" note, and people were complaining that they didn't turn the horses around.
This was the first series to show William Lyon MacKenzie King.

According to Charlton's (2011) a $50 note with *HB is rare at 240,000 while a 3 letter note has no real premium in this condition. So, does the * mean any letter or is it really a *?
I love this note however! Cheers

I have checked through the Charlton 2011 book and on pages 230, 258, 242 and 271, the * seems to indicate low and high numbers reported. IMHO, the *HB should be considered as showing low and high numbers for 2 letter prefixs, and this bill should be BC-51a-i, Lawson-Bouey; 3 letters, where there was 56,440,000 issued. It does not start gaining more value until VF, $60.00 and EF - $80.00. Sorry for getting your hopes up. I hope that someone can correct me if I am wrong. Still a nice bill to hang onto, because of the change over to polymer bills estimated later this year.

Worth 36.0923 euro at the moment, minus exchange fees. They might have a problem because of the age, but you could always mail it to someone in the US or Canada and get newer money or USD if they are easy to spend in Greece.

Agreed with BC-51 a-i, and the 50+M issued. The note, however, is not a Replacement note, sigh. Replacement notes have the "X" as the third letter, e.g. EHX.

The funniest nickname I've heard is that this shows an (Eastern Canadian Province) firing squad.

Northof, In Ontario and Quebec, that particular province was the butt of many, many jokes that seem to have more or less died out along with 80's hair bands. The odd one pops up (just like 80's hair bands).
And people did complain about the rear view of the horse... whining sucks... look what we get now... borrrrring

Lol, circular firing squad!
I learned in high school that William Lyon Mackenzie King took advise from his dog. Is there any truth to that?
