I recently found the Lincoln with the 86 cast over itself. I have not been able to find this variety in coin books and was wondering if anyone has seen this before. I have not tried to take a picture of this yet, however if there is interest I will try and post it soon. JR

Does it almost look like kind of
white Ghost doubling to the right?

Welcome to CC!

It's called MD ( Machine Doubling) or DDD ( Die Deterioration Doubling), it happens on a lot of Lincoln cents and is very common.

And for your thread title, it's doubED die, not "double die"....and it sounds like your coin was not produced using a doubled die.

Hey Thad, long time not talk.
I am more inclined to think it is die wear or more likely plate flow. It does not seem to have the flat shelf appearance that MD has. appears more rounded.

imho Jim
