The other day instead of going to Bank of America, which is where I usually get all my rolls of coins, to get my rolls of nickels, I went to First Bank on a lark.
I walk in and ask the teller for 11 rolls of nickels. She bends down to get the coins out from under the counter and as she does it,she says "Oh that's right. You're the collector."
I am 17 years old and have gone to this bank ONE time about 6 months ago for 5 rolls of nickels and a couple rolls of halves and she somehow remembers me. I don't believe that I can be the only person to have ever asked for rolls of coins. As I've said,I frequent Bank of America pretty....frequently,and the tellers recognize me pretty quickly and when I get to the counter they almost always smile and say "Nickels?". My Bank of America is about 3 blocks away from First Bank. Anybody else have something like this happen?

Bank tellers give me looks all the all the time when I asked for rolls and I can also tell by the tone of their voice. They don't want to get out of their chair to get the rolls from in the back.

For a collector a roll is like a lottery coupon. So when one asks for a roll some excitement may well be heard. If one needs a roll to have a change it's much more probable to hear a tone of boredom. It may reflect also in the eyes.

Quote: ...and have gone to this bank ONE time about 6 months ago for 5 rolls of nickels and a couple rolls of halves and she somehow remembers me. Surprisingly, that might actually be the case. You might have made a memorable impression. 6 months is not that long of a time period. Or. Quote: I don't believe that I can be the only person to have ever asked for rolls of coins. She has you confused with other collectors and hunters. She could also have others confused with you on your other visit. All she knows is your one of several collectors/hunters that she remembers coming into that branch looking for coin.

I'm pretty sure the folks at the Chase banks around town all talk about me ("the guy that dumps all those ____ half dollars"). But I'm OK with it - they always treat me nice and I've been banking with them for years. Plus at Christmas they get fresh pumpkin bread,

That one is kinda odd. I know if you are part of a bank that has several branches in the area they will talk about you and in a way mark you (I have caught them doing it to me) but between different banks that is something new to me.

There is another possibility. Pending on the ages of the tellers and if they are females and you are an eligible, young, single decent looking male. Not only would they exchange info about you, but they might just be interested. And I don't mean about your coins. Just one possibility to start a conversation you know.

do we envy these unfortunates ? I think not ... Of course they gossip, if only to fill the obvious void. With other banks ? Why not ? Who else would understand ? Where I live we a football and hockey teams called "Banks" - somewhere for them to fit-in, I guess ...

No I wouldn't worry about it, I had this happen to me too. I normally use my bank, BOA but anytime I'm somewhere new and time/money permits it. If I see a bank I'll stop in and test the waters. One day I stopped in this bank (Think it was Chase)in Edison NJ and ask if they have any halfs, or new dollar rolls, the lady said as she was looking through the draw, OOHH Yea Your the Collector. She said it in such a happy pleasant way, That I just went with it. Yup thats me. .-) I actually scored 2 40%ers. It was nice. So it can very easily be anyone of these replies here. Don't sweat it, keep doing what your doing. Always be kind and respectful this way if anyone does try to down talk you, They don't have a leg to lean on. Did I tell you what the one legged tellers name at Chase Bank.......ILEAN.... One legged lady named ILEAN who works at Chase....Priceless JK JK I saw someone touched a little on the subject about Tellers not wanting to get up off their chair and go in the back. That's one of the most frustrating things I deal with here in Central Jersey. Many times I've stopped in for New Dollar Rolls, Presidential or Native American. I know they have them but don't want to get up, or go in the safe to get them. One girl is so dead set on ever helping me out, when I see her I just turn around. I'm always pleasant. Anyone that helps me out ALWAYS gets a Dunkin Doughnuts gift card, usually $5-$10, Sure it sometimes puts me in the negative but it makes things so much easier.

Awww, she probably likes you :) Banks don't associate with other banks, but it doesn't mean that the staffs are not friends with each other. If people are chatting about you it only because they find you terribly interesting, take it as a complement. Anyways its to your advantage; at my bank I am now friends with all the staff and they ask what you are looking for this month, and I simply tell them and the darlings spend there spare time finding the coins for me, he he... I am so lazy at this now.
