I found this 1969 S Nickel in my cash drawer yesterday. It seems to be very nice and shiny. I can make out 6 steps with a microscope. Any info?

Probably a circulated Proof. Somebody probably broke open the set for the silver in the half and spent the rest of it. Probably happens quite often.

San Francisco also minted business strike nickels from 1968-1970. However, if you are seeing 6 steps and brilliant polished fields then it is probably a proof as the steps are not usually strong on business strikes.

Nice find, but even though you see 6 steps, it appears it would not qualify for that designation as there is a ding that look to go right through the steps. Still nice though.
