I know they're one of our revenue streams, but has anyone had problems with their shipping practices?

I placed my first order with APMEX on May 1st, and at last I checked it still has not yet shipped. I'm not sure what the norm is for them. Have you been waiting a while? Or have you been hearing things about their service? * EDITED FOR NO GOOD GRAMMER

Thats pretty slow. I have never ordered from them but if that is the norm I won't be ordering.

APMEX is a great site.....ive ordered about 10 different things so far and have had nothing but good things....shipping is usually prompt and very well packaged....usually they send you an email with the tracking number as a link so everyday you can click it and see exactly where your package is....last week I ordered an APMEX 1/4oz gold round....it shipped out monday and is suppose to be a 5-day delivery so I should have it by next monday......the boxes come very plain (so no one knows you have valuable items in it)....and packaged tamper proof so no one could possibly open the box without you knowing....ive ordered many 1oz silver rounds (ase, grizzly, philharmonics, kookabura,etc...) also have ordered coin supplies from them as well......if you have any issues just call their customer support they are ALWAYS considerate and easy to talk to!

I agree with Flook for the most part. Their service and selection are excellent. Shipping can be delayed now and then. My 1st order went very well. The 2nd one took a few extra days. I have no idea why. My 2nd shipment went out 3 days after their estimated shipping date. This in itself is unusual, I think. From what I have read, and my 1st order confirmed, their estimated shipping dates are pretty accurate. My 1st order was a tube of 2011 ASEs. My 2nd order was a tube of proof Kennedy half dollars + a tube of Roosevelt BU dimes. Not sure what the delay was over, since they claimed that both were in stock.

I ordered ASEs and Libertads, all were shown to be in stock. The transaction and CC payment was approved and a week later still no shipment. Sorry dudes, I'll not be ordering from them again. I'm used to dealers shipping the same day they have the money.
Any one ever cancel their order with them?
Any success?

OOOOpppppssss! In all fairness to APMEX, I may have been hasty in my query. I just checked status again this evening and they now show the order shipped. We'll see how long it takes to get here and the quality of the purchase. It's hard to be objective with all the bad press many of the PM dealers have gotten recently.

It'll be roughly 3 weeks by the time I have my order in hand...and that's acceptable for me.

Quote: It'll be roughly 3 weeks by the time I have my order in hand...and that's acceptable for me. I dunno. Three weeks seems to be pushing it. Two weeks would be good for me... if paying by check, which I usually do. A CC payment SHOULD speed things along, since they can charge the card immediately. I wish that they would have a buyers club of some kind that a person could join and get faster service, even on check payments, and discounts or specials that less dedicated buyers might not get. I know that some people pay with rubber checks but for those of us who do not do that, a bit of extra consideration would be good. Even if I had to deposit some money in an account that I could then draw upon immediately, it would still be good. At some point, after multiple successful payments, a person's good rep really ought to count for something, right? Think about it, APMEX!

Quote: Even if I had to deposit some money in an account that I could then draw upon immediately Kitco will do that, but no interest on it while they hold it. Of course the banks hardly pay anything anyway. Kitco will hold personal checks for 3 weeks before they ship. Once cleared they shipped very fast in my case, like same day.

Quote: Kitco will hold personal checks for 3 weeks before they ship. My, how nice of them. My step-Dad was once a bank VP. I asked him how long it takes to verify funds in another bank against which a check was written. He said "About 2 minutes, if there is no rush". 3 weeks? Hmmm... The account idea has some merit, though, especially if one knows that they will be buying some PMs relatively soon. I agree that the loss of interest on that money would be insignificant these days. Thanks for the info. I did not know that about Kitco.

One I have used in the past is the Tulving Co. who has free overnight shipping on all orders. I bought ASE's from him many years ago and they showed up the next day Fedex. More recently my friend bought 90% bags with no problems. Three weeks is a lifetime in this current market where you can be up or down a lot per coin. Something to consider. http://www.tulving.com/

OK, its official. I have sunk to low down, crusty old, impatient, fuddy duddy status. Just received my coins today and they are great. The early Libertads are blast white and not a mark on any of the coins. I guess that I was concerned about the transaction because of all the bad press many PM companies have gotten recently. Usually, the dealers I work with ship the day I pay for the coins using pay pal. In retrospect the 6 day delay was well within reasonable practises. Looks like I'll order all that other stuff from them too. Gotta give them...

I plan on trying APMEX out next time, especially if I want to sell. They are local for me so I can drop off without mailing. To bad they closed the retail store in Edmond a few years ago.

3 weeks for me to get my order, although I am from Canada, so it might be normal for us canucks.
I do like them, mostly because they have a great selection of stuff. But for the most part I stick with other dealers in Canada b/c shipping is cheaper.
If silver goes down just a bit more I might bite on buying some somalia elephants, brittanias, kooks, koalas, and libertads to complete my bullion around the world collection!
