I know I should post photos but I just need some general help. I have the following coins. None have been cleaned. Mostly average or Good circulated coins. A few are VG. 1892 P. 1898 P. 1898 O. 1899 P. 1901 P. 1901 S. 1903 P. 1904 P. 1905 S. 1906 P. 1906 D. 1908 P. 1909 P. 1910 P. 1910 S. 1911 P. 1911 D. 1912 P. 1912 S. 1912 D. 1913 P. 1914 P. 1914 D. 1915 P. 1916 P. Dad collected these in the 1930's and 1950's. In a Whitman booklet. I got great advice from this community when I started selling 2 weeks ago. My brothers and I had left Dad's coins in storage for 8 years but finally divided up into thirds. They are holding on and I am selling. I have gone to coin dealers and had great experiences. Also joined 2 local coin clubs. Most of the information here on CoinCommunity is about coins that are in much better condition than Dad's coins. Are the above coins mostly sellable at scrap silver prices? What website has prices for average coins. I tried numismedia.com but they list dealer selling prices. I don't know what discount I get when selling.
Please let me know if I am describing my coins correctly ( I know that the lack of photos makes it tough for you to help me). I listened to all of your advice when selling off Dad's 16 gold coins. I felt much more confident after reading your replies.

I don't collect Barber dimes but I can tell you this, you can always check ebay completed listings for the most recent prices people are willing to pay for the coin in similar condition.
Rest in Peace

Welcome to the forum. If these are just G-VG worn condition (no LIBERTY), they are worth only slightly over bullion silver value except the 1901-S (As much as $120 in VG) 1898-O (as much as $30 in VG), 1910-S and to an extent, the 1892. You should post pictures. I would sell the rest of them in a silver lot when you want to, and sell these separately. Numismedia is a good reference, but is more 'retail' prices.

I went back to review the rules. I enjoy this forum and want to follow the rules. My original topic was "Selling my dad's coin collection" but I did not mean that I was trying to sell them here on this forum. I meant that I am getting ready to sell these coins and need some guidance. I am 62 years old and want to get these coins into the hands of people who will enjoy them. Dad was born in 1921 and enjoyed collecting (altho his favorite thing was Stamps). @Shadow, I think the coins are VG. THanks for the values. I didn't want to sell for scrap without checking first.
You have to register at ebay to get the closed sales. I'm not a member. I do follow the links to ebay from this forum.

surf22, that edit above wasn't to you, it was for the members to remember that they are not supposed to initiate a buy or sale with new members. Your thread is fine so you have done nothing wrong

I never knew that, have you tried to click advance tabs and then type in the date and type of the coin and then go down to completed listings to see if it works without registering? I have been a ebay member so long I didn't realize you had to be a member to see completed sales on there and am sure others didn't know as well

I agree with ShadowCreator, sell those particular dates as individual coins. You will get the most $ for them. I am currently working on a Dansco Album of Barber dimes, and am learning all I can about them. Per CCF rules, you cannot sell or buy here yet but, you can throw them on ebay. I would definitely throw some bids your way ;-)

There is a listing of prices on the PCGS forum. Also, Coin World, Numismedia and as noted already, ebay.
Why not just invest in a Red Book. Not a new one, but a few year old one. Prices in those books are inflated so a 3 or 4 year old one could possibly give you some decent values.
It is difficult to get values for bulk quantities of coins without examining each one.

How about seeking out a local coin club? From my experience, members are often glad to help. Rather than trying to outright sell the coins, first try getting some help with the grades; especially, for the 1901-S. See if the club has a library or any current price guides. If you find the initial experience helpful, return and see if you can put the coins in a club auction or solicit offers. Why sell to a dealer if there's collector interest?

@Exo, I will bring the coins to the coin club. Their meeting is the 1st Wednesday of each month. I went to this month's meeting. When I pull out any coins, they always want to buy them on the spot.
@JustCarl, I don't know what PCGS forum is. I will check to see if it is part of this site. Thanks for the explanation about the inflated prices in the Red Book. I don't want to think I have something valuable when I don't. I will get a 4 year old book.

@justcarl, I went to PCGS forum to see their list of prices. To get more specific information, they ask for $12.95. Perhaps I will pay. I did see their general list of prices but it is a bit confusing.

surf22, also Coin Values magazine at your local bookstore or even Walmart (I've seen it there), will have general ballpark values for your Barbers. The 1901-S is a semi-key, and thus will be the most valuable Barber dime you have. I would love to see pictures of the coins
