Some tried to pass these as 5 dollar gold pieces(by gold plating them) back in the day (since there was no denomination stated on the coin)
Actual gold pieces do not have smooth edges and were easily spotted...but some V nickels were gold plated and given reeded edges...if you ever find one of these
you really have a treasure!
