I have taken the plunge and posted a sale on ebay. From what I have heard if I sell I must have some kind of delivery confirmation and as it is a high dollar item I feel it must be insured. Is there any thing else you would suggest in the delivery of my coin to an ebay buyer?

Secondly I am wondering about the ebay costs, fees, pay pal fees etc. Also how do I acquire my sale funds from pay pal? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't ship out of the United States due to problems I have had with international shipments in the past but it's up to you if want the added risk. Depending on the dollar amount of the item sold, I would say insurance and some kind of delivery or signature confirmation is a must to protect yourself. I generally will do this for items that $50-$75 or more.

ebay just changed the fee structure and I haven't sold since that happened, but generally it seems to be about 15% of the total are taken off the top between ebay and Paypal fees.

For the Paypal funds, I think it's handled differently for coins and bullion (I don't know for sure since I don't sell these on ebay) and there may be a hold/clearing period before you can withdraw the funds. If you get a Paypal debit card, you can take the cleared money out from an ATM or request a direct transfer to your linked bank account.

The only other suggestions I would have is to make sure your descriptions are accurate and clear. Take good pictures and make the return policy and other terms and conditions of the auction very clear. Also, be quick with your communication and don't drag your feet on shipping items. There's really no reason an item can't be shipped within 48 hours of a cleared payment unless some unforeseen emergency keeps up. Buyers don't like wondering when their item will ship and having to wait extended times for their item to arrive.

Good luck!

I believe ebay charges 9% (maybe 10%) for selling subject to some limitations. Paypal charges 3%. You can request a check from paypal or a debit card, but they may charge additional for that. The easiest thing to do is to have a checking account hooked up to it so you can just electronically transfer money back and forth. I've never had any holds on my ebay sales, including coins, but I don't know all of their specific policies.

If there has been no bids yet, you can go and revise it. Also you can set the buyer restrictions to not allow people from regions you don't want to ship to, to not be able to bid on your item. So that there is no confusion in the end.

I think it is 2.9% plus 30c fixed. So small value items the % is huge, and big ticket items the % is smaller.

Yep that should do the trick. I would also make it specified in the item description. You'll probably still get people asking if you ship to such and such a country. When I get those emails, I just delete them because it's already made VERY clear in the description.

Using the PayPal debit card as credit get's 1% of what you spend back at the end of the month. Use it to pay your bills.

My Visa card gives me 1% back so I use it to fund my Paypal, plus it provides some extra fraud protection.

I don't know if that makes it more expensive for the seller or not.
