Definitely scary stuff. That is exactly why I would never spend a substantial amount on a coin unless I had it in hand. Even then, it would be from a very reputable source. Thanks for sharing!

Agree, this is too scary, and some look familiar! And, some say they have been through grading, but details are iffy...

@jackB-yes...some of them are in "fake" slabs....if you notice they interrupt the barcode and serial number with a sticker that shouldn't be there...I think I I ever buy something that expensive I will ask that guy for his opinion...lol

If so, then what's the amount over which you would never buy from ebay? I am thinking $100?

Well to me...I won't buy from China....ever...now I would worry about someone else buying one...finding out it was fake and then me buying it...but currently I am only buying junk silver..not worth the CF effort..

CoinForgeryEbay's photostream on Flickr has been a great reminder of what's out there.
I like how on some they name names.

And these are just the US coins...if you recall the photos of the Chinese counterfeiting operation, they were also minting fake Sovereigns, Greek Staters, Maria Theresa dollars, Spanish Reales, Russian pieces, French Napoleons, and who knows what else since then.

I have heard ... with the Chinese economy getting better, they are buying back their old coins. Maybe other countries should start making fake Chinese coins to sell to them.

Quote:Check out this ebay listing. If genuine thats a $200,000 coin. This one here is surely a counterfeit. Seller could be legit. He has a couple coins listed that were purchased from Heritage. Then again, I also see he's using stolen Great Southern Coin pictures in some of his other auctions. Doesn't even try and erase their logo. Hah!

Font and bar code is off. Especially the bar code. Please tell me you reported it and didn't just drop by to complain.
