I thought the same thing. but then I looked at another 45 and it alomost starts to look like a 3. I then looked at a 43 and the 3 is much more round. The holder also is labled as a 45d. I am getting alot of questionable answers from thisn sale. I bid on it and then forgot about it. never expected to win. I think I will email and see if he will offer it to the next bidder and let me out of it.

Grovey, I asked this before, but I'll ask again. What is your goal in bidding on low tier TPG's slabbed coins? The odds of you picking up something that actually grades out are slim at best! For the same money you can get a fairly graded or raw coin in the MS63 range that will look just as good. I'm not an expert grader, but in this case I'm not even sure this coin is an Unc! The breast seemed to show wear, as well as a little rub on the leg. The reverse looks O.K. but that is not uncommon on an AU58 coin.As far as over paying, you only overpaid if you are unhappy with the coin. If you are, maybe the seller will let you off if you offer to pay the "difference" between your final and the next highest bidders final offer!(just an idea if he refuses to let you out of the deal for nothing) Stay away from these low tier TPGS'S and start posting your beautiful raw or fairly graded Walkers. They are truly beautiful coins. What did you think of the David Hall graded MS65 that I posted the ebay link to on your last post about grades? I got that one for within $5.00 of average auction price and it has a neat history. Mike

Grovey,
I would have to ask the same thing Mike did. This particular coin is way too weak in the stars, legends, hand, breast feathers, leg, and so forth to be anywhere near MS-66. I would be shocked based on the pics to see MS-63. At MS-63 you are looking at a $40 coin. Your other recent purchases were far better than this one. I know that you want to build this set, but taking low tier coins just to get the date is going to cause you far more trouble than it is worth.
This seller has 1 key thing that would cause me to never do business with him/her. ANY seller or dealer who quotes trends prices for low tier grading companies should and must be avoided. Everyone knows that NTC is not a recognized top grading service. Everyone knows that coins in NTC holders do not hold the same value as the top grading companies. Anyone making it sound that way is misleading their buyers, and they should be avoided.

I would not suggest leaving a neg feedback. You indeed made an offer, and are responsible for that offer. Now, if the seller has a buyback offer that may be an option for you. Or you can use this purchase as a valuable learning experience. Everyone will at one time or another pay TOO much for a coin. There is nothing wrong with that. It is a learning process, and one that each person has to learn for themselves. There are also times when you will have to pay TOO much. That is okay if you are paying too much for your own personal reasons. In order to obtain a coin that speaks to you, you have to determine what price is paid. Don't however, let 1 transaction ruin an ebay feedback. You made the bid, stand behind it.

Hi Grovey
Glad that the seller let you out ,, makes me wonder why but oh well, I guess that the coin was a 45-D although from the pic it sure looked like a 43.
I dont personally think avoiding lower tiered grading companys slabbed coins is the whole answer !!
But I will add this , learn to grade these coins!!! once you have a handle on grade, off the top grading companies ,slab no slab will no longer matter,Bid according to the grade YOU assign the coin ,,whatever else is the sellers opinion.
Buy the coin not the slab !!

Grovey, I'm glad all has worked out well. ND and Metalman have given you sound advice. Follow it the best you can and I think you will be able to put together your set at the level of quality you want and for the amount of money you want to spend. Go slow!!! Mike

I agree with Speedy. There are times when it might be worth a gamble to bid on low/non-tiered TPG graded coins. Of course, as has already been pointed out many times, it's going to be a crap shoot, so any prospective bidder needs to march into the fray with eyes wide open, knowing that s/he might end up on the losing end of that gamble. However, if one has the money to spare and doesn't mind taking a chance, it's also possible to end up with a winner.

Hi Folks, I'm not really sure what's being defended here! No one is saying you can't get lucky and score a winner with a low tier TPG coin or any coin for that matter. All that's been said is the odds of getting a winner are low, and the odds of getting a loser are high. The people selling these low grade TPG's are mostly getting rejects and problem coins back from the big guys,re-submitting them to the low tier TPG's and hoping to do to you (by overgrading) exactly the opposite of what your trying to do buying them at lower prices than the true grades would allow! All thats being said is "Don't play this game until you know exactly what your doing" And, as has been said over and over, "buy the coin, not the slab" and most important of all...... buy what you like! Mike, Peace
