so my other post with this coin, had more white lighting. I felt it didnt really show the coins true luster and details.
i hope this picture can show more flaws and true grade. please help with a grade and possible value thanks

I would say this is an AU-55

Worth around $100.

Hair shows very little wear, cheek looks to be free of any distracting dings but the fields on obverse show several areas where it's been scuffed. Ditto for the reverse fields and there are several scratches . Eagle's breast has significant wear. Appears it might still have some luster to it and I would guess, in hand it has nice eye appeal. Technical grade AU58. Eye appeal MS62.

with my eyes, and the coin shop I went to, they said it was not cleaned. theose scratches in the fields, look like dull scratches, not cleaning. also, the breast feathers dont seem worn at all, just look like feathers to me. I must be missing something

Looks very close to mint state in these photos. Does this dollar show "cartwheel" luster when you tilt it it under a point-source light (like a desk lamp with an incandescent or halogen bulb)? If not, that is a pretty good indication it has been dipped enough to strip away the original luster.

If you photograph it under a point source with the light positioned off to one side an MS coin should show strong luster bands perpendicular to the direction to the source. I'd like to see how this coin looks under those conditions.

The dark areas above Liberty's ear and on the eagle's breast look like "luster grazes" which don't necessarily disqualify a Morgan dollar from a mint state grade.

please explain cartwheel more. you can see in some of the obv fields that there appears to be "scratching". not sure what that is. like something dull had hit it a bunch. my coin dealer looked at it and said it was not dipped or cleaned. who knows. it looks like real original surfaces to me. and a good deal luster too. but duller.
