I had some auction guy say it could be possibly Gem Uncirculated ms66. I am new to this game what could or should or recommend I do? Get graded by PCGS OR NGC or keep it in the collection as is?

That's a beautiful Barber dime. I would grade it MS64+. Not a rare date by any means but, in this grade level, yes, I would suggest PCGS or NGC. Welcome to the CCF!

It's pretty nice - I agree w/ Dave - send it in to be graded.

I've always been partial to PCGS but I really like the NGC holders. Looks like the coin is hanging there.

Gorgeous coin! Sending it off to be graded really depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you're going to sell it, then yes, send it off. But, if you're going to keep it in your collection, then there is really no point.

What specific factor(s)is preventing this coin from being a solid MS 65?

IMHO, there are too many light scattered marks in the obverse field and the reverse looks to have a little mark above N of ONE.

Great dime, all my Barber coins are well circulated, I need to upgrade them.

I agree with MS-64. The marks in front of Liberty's neck, chin, and nose plus the faint scuffiness next to her mouth, and the mark above N of ONE on the reverse, are enough to take it out of gem (MS-65) territory. One valid reason to put high grade collectible coins in TPG holders is to protect them. Sure, if you carefully place it in a 2X2, Airtite, or other holder that will do as well. However, a single clumsy moment handling a nice raw coin like this can create an unfortunate scratch or ding. That risk is eliminated if the coin is slabbed.
