This is a good board, and I'm not going to break the rules by trying to sell on here, but it's painfully obvious to me that I'd have a hard time reaching 150 quality posts. I'd just be doing it so that I can sell coins here, and that doesn't strike me as being in the spirit of the rules. I already picked out what coins from my grandfather's collection (more of a jar where he emptied his pockets after globetrotting) have value to me, like the philippines war coins. The rest, I'm liquidating. Ideally there would be a reputable collector in the East TN area who would like to be gifted some coins of their choice in exchange for picking through the containers and tell me what's worth my time to sell, and what's not. If something is only worth 25 cents, I'm not gonna put it on ebay. Problem is, I don't know anyone like that. BUT I do have to sincerely thank you guys for helping me develop the Gumball Machine 'o coins idea, and it will be put into action as a way to deal with the sub $1.00 coins. Thanks for reading this, and here's some coin pron: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63171299@N03/Yes, I just now noticed the two lincoln cents in the photos... AND I CAN'T FIND THEM IN THE BOX.

Hi - I've had a quick look and to be honest - If this was a lot at a local auction I'd leave a bid of £10 on it and I'd be sure to get it - and probably for a lot less.
I think they'd be worth much more as keepsakes than the few £ or $ that you would get.

Around $20 is a good estimate...or possible less. There are a couple of a little more rarer coins you don't find in an average 25 cent box but if it were me I'd keep them Join the Darkside of coin collecting. You will never turn back.

Yeah, I'm not expecting to realize more than $80 or so if I piece everything out bit by bit. That sounds about right for an all at once price. I may try craigslist.. I pulled out some interesting ones and uploaded the pics to the flikr stream. The wheaties are in the 'junk' section. :P The coins in the lower left are unknown.. I think they are either middle eastern or north african. I think the 1936 aussie sixpence is the only valuable one of the bunch, but look at that 1909 that some twinkle toed blankety blank blanker had to drill.

Those Philippines coins in the 2nd pic are interesting, the larger two look like they're either 20 or 50 Centavos, which are both .75 silver

I buy world coins for $15 per kilogram. If you want a better price than that, you'll have to itemize them, and research them, so you know which ones are worth the extra effort. But, as I say, there is a minimum price, which requires minimum effort.

Except for the individual coins mentioned, and the Buffalo nickel in one photo, these look much like the mix of foreign coins that I buy for around $7.00 a pound from my local dealer, many of which are "obsolete", having been drawn from circulation. Since you already have them in hand, perhaps you could pick up a guide to world coins at your nearby bookstore and plunge into the fascinating hobby of world coin collecting. The "dark side" is quite addicting, I assure you!

short of going through each coin for identification, one option would be sell them as a lot on ebay BUT highlight the Philippine silver as being part of the lot. With silver going crazy, people bid crazy when there is even a whisper of silver these days. I would love these as part of my type collection but I know (as someone pointed out) the catalog value goes out the window when the silver comes out!!

Why not just keep them instead? It's not like they're going to bring in big money. Consider them a head start on your collection, or add to his collection.
I know where you put those two Lincoln cents. You put them aside just in case so they wouldn't get scratched or damaged.
