I've decided to take on the Dansco 7070! Not sure what grades I'll be looking for or whether or not to include proofs. Honestly, staring at this empty album is a little overwhelming. Wish me luck!

A nice simple way to start is fill it with any grade you have on hand then upgrade from there

I started my 7070 about 6 months ago and I decided to fill it with what ever I could get my hands on(good or better). This one will be for general show and tell. I am also working on a second one that will be all MS, it will be kept in a safe to pass down to my kids.

I just started one a month ago. I know it's going to take a while but it looks like fun. I have alot of the easy ones so far but it's time to dig into the 1800's.

I too just started one a couple of months ago. Half of the 7070 is relatively easy to fill, the other half, not so much. My suggestion would be to make a want list with grades of each type that you can afford. Imo seems easier than just randomly buying. I plan on having mine done in about 2 years and 2-3 thousand dollars. Grades will be Ag- MS, but that doesn't bother me so much. I cant afford for all Au-MS. Anyhow, Good Luck, I've had a lot of fun with mine so far.

I want to start this album too, but each time I think about it, my head kind of spins around I don't buy many coins, and to make this album I would really be investing some money I really would love to own all the coins though, and since I am in love with making sets this could make me feel better about buying random coins another thing is that when I see the sets others put together that have all really nice condition coins in them I get put off because I know that on a 21 year old who lives on his owns budget my album will look a lot less flashy one day I will begin mine though, just a matter of when keep us posted and I would love to see pictures of your progress as you go

I took a unique approach to my type set. (notice I didnt say 7070).
Once I select a coin to become a part of my type set, that's it. No upgrades, no changes, thats it... until I complete it.
A few things this does for me is;
- I think long and hard on if I want "this" coin - It keeps from getting "in a hurry" - It allows me to work consistently towards and end, and not get caught up in "upgrades" - I find it more fun this way because I scrutinize very heavily and when I finally find "the coin", it feels so good when I actually purchase it. (like waiting for that almost flawless Peace Dollar/Morgan Dollar)
Do your self a favor and don't treat it like school assignment that needs to just be finished so you can move on. Take your time, do it right. There are some here that have been working on theirs for 20+ years (probably longer) and they will be the first to tell you this same thing.
Happy hunting!

If you are like many of us, your 7070 will NEVER be finished. I've assigned version numbers to mine and am currently working of V3.0 which is upgrading to proofs on coins within "reason" (<- a relative term). Most pricey proof thusfar was a PF-66 Walker. I hope my son will appreciated his inheritance someday....

Do I start a 7070 or a Morgan date set?

the same album saved me from just basically quitting collecting coins all together. When you are focused on one particular series all the time you can start to get a little burnt out and that was what was happening to me. I stared he 7070 album and the excitement came back I had lost by searching for all the different designs and sizes of coins to fill the album. I kind of went back to my Morgans and put the album on the back burner for the past year or so but as soon as I start to get burnt out again I know its right there waiting on me to get the few coins I have left to finally finish it off. I have seen 7070 albums filled with only AU-MS-70 like mine all the way down to every coin being holed (where someone had drilled a hole in each coin) so it is what ever you can afford and like and there is no wrong way to do the album. It is just to be enjoyable and I have to say no matter how many Morgans on how ever many grades I have to show people it is always the 7070 album that they enjoy seeing most because there are coins in there allot of people have never seen before and they can see all the different sizes and denominations in one place. I guess it just has that cool factor that people really enjoy looking at
