Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have made a homemade ryedale like penny sorter.

I was thinking it would be a fun project to do, and help me out with my change jug

I was thinking of something like this: << Videos Below >>

Any ideas?

EDIT: Or one like this just bigger: << Videos Below >>

I made one, actually used the second one you have as my plan. I got very frustrated with it because at the speed it ran I could go thought them by hand twice as fast. The balance always needed adjusting as well. It was a fun "I'm bored" project, but wasn't practical. It would be beneficial to someone who couldn't read the dates though.

Not sure why anyone would use them since just might miss a valuable coin. Imagine a 1914D flying though unnoticed.

I used an electric motor I pulled out of a broken RC car, just played with the voltage with a rheostat till I got the speed I wanted. I made it on the cheap with stuff I had lying around. I used a scratched CD as the wheel, the only issue I had was getting the coins to go in straight. They had to be lined up perfectly and not to high because the weight would mess up the wheel.

If you could design a better feeding mechanism they would be better, but both of these IMO are limited by the mechanism which coins are loaded. The designs do work, I just found them not to be very efficient.
