hey everyone, just found this site. I have a penny that is a 1930 great britain penny. it has king george on one side and a lady holding a shield and a fork on the other side. Anyone know if this is worth anything at all? I seem to get conflicting information while searching on the web. it isn't in bad condition at all, a few marks but the imrpessions seem to be ok

any helpers please?

Hello and welcome. Hope we can help.

Anyone talking about "1930 pennies being very rare" is talking about Australian pennies. British 1930 pennies are very common - worth a dollar or so in typical condition. In the British series, it's 1933 that's the super-rare date (only six known, or something like that).

Many Australian collectors buy a British 1930 penny as a "space-filler" for their penny albums, rather than purchase a replica or leave the hole empty.

Hi,

In very fine condition - it's catalogued at $1 (a US publication). Obviously here in the UK you can pick them up for 20p but in the more exotic parts of the world somebody might give you a little more for it.

A 1930 UNC Penny is booked at 70 pounds, the US publications are pretty much useless for UK coin values as they don't go into any depth on the varieties.

On ebay you'd expect to pay between 30-50 pounds for a GENUINE UNC grade, American and UK grading standards differ greatly.
