HI All Here is the deal. This is just the first of many I guess. I have not sween all the goodies yet but this is what was thrown out to me this AM. These two ladies have a coin collection that is in a suit case. and a two gallon jar and who knows what. These are all her uncles coins and Pat and her mom got it all. The problem is that they are it a tight stretch and are in need of money. I told them I will help them out anyway I can. What are friends for. I ask any of you that know the Darkside to offer up fair deals as these are all for sale. They just need money. I know a few of these are silver. contact me with what fair prices or offers should be. Thanks All. Also She has a watch that is a Elgin Pocket Watch With the original tag on the inside door that is original to the watch. She would like to see what the value is of it. Thanks Again Folks. Any idea of a good fair value to price these at? Just let me know. I want to get these sold for them. Thanks All.

My brother, the watch aficionado, tells me that the watch could be worth several hundred dollars or more, but without a close inspection and an appraisal, that amount is just a guess. Try trolling ebay for similar Elgin watches for a better idea.

I don't see many coins that are worth more that by the pound (@ around $6.50 per pound), but the Mexican 50-centavo piece should fetch around $12.00 or more, and the German 5-pfennig piece might be worth around 50ยข. The Swiss coins are all worth at least face value; the current exchange rate is about 1.17 francs to the U. S. dollar.

The watch is cool. The signature is even more cool. Al Roebuck (Alvah Roebuck) was a watch repairman whom Sears hired as his business grew. Roebuck eventually partnered with Sears to form the foundation of Sears, Roebuck and Co.

On April 1, 1887, Roebuck answered an advertisement for a watchmaker in the Chicago Daily News, and two days later he received a reply--Richard W. Sears wanted to hire him. Thus began the association of two men who would soon form one of the world's best-known business partnerships. The firm was incorporated as Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1893.

In 1895, Roebuck asked Sears to buy him out. However, at Richard Sears' request, he took charge of a division that handled watches, jewelry, optical goods, and, later, phonographs, magic lanterns and motion picture machines. His business interests did not end with Sears. He later organized and financed two companies: a manufacturer and a distributor of motion picture machines and accessories. Roebuck also served as president (1909-1924) of Emerson Typewriter Company, where he invented an improved typewriter, called the "Woodstock."

After several years in semi-retirement in Florida, the financial losses he suffered in the stock market crash of 1929 forced Roebuck to return to Chicago. By 1933, Roebuck had rejoined Sears, Roebuck and Co., where he largely devoted his time to compiling a history of the company he helped found.

Then, in September of 1934, a Sears store manager asked Mr. Roebuck to make a public appearance at his store. After an enthusiastic public turnout, Mr. Roebuck went on tour, appearing at retail stores across the country for the next several years.

Alvah Roebuck returned to his desk at company headquarters in Chicago, where he enthusiastically assumed the task of compiling a corporate history until his death on June 18, 1948.

Nice watch, but I don't know anything about them either. The ebay search is a good idea.

Thanks for the history onejinx.

I'd only be interested in the US coins if you put together a list and PM>

I noticed you havea 1925 2 lati piece from latvia. That piece is indeed Silver and as a MILD guess I'd say you might fetch about $10-15 bucks for that one.

Mexico 50 centavo is .720 silver that you might get about $10 for. Its condition is a bit on the down side.

The Swiss 1/2 Franc is silver. It looks like two or three of the Iran coins might be silver, hard to tell w/o being able to read dates.

The 1942 One Shilling is silver (ASW 0.0909) or about $3.50 at today's melt price. There are some other silver, too as others have mentioned.
