This is one of my latest acquisitions. It a great looking Type 2 gold dollar. I thought it would be an interesting post as not many are posted and fewer are posted with significant wear. It's graded by NGC, let me know what you think. Also, I hate the holder it's in, it hides the edges and rim too much IMO, I will probably end up taking it out at some point.

Definite wear on all the high points and just a trace of luster remaining around a couple letters and along the edges of the wreath. I'd go along with VF-35 but it wouldn't surprise me if NGC called it XF-40.

You guys seemed to nail it right from the start. NGC graded it VF 30. In researching these coins, many appeared to be over graded. I can't tell you how many coins in XF45 holders I saw which had slightly better details then this coin. Most of these seemed to be graded by NGC and recently, so I don't know if NGC is getting more lenient with these coins. This one is in an older style holder and I think they got the grade correct, perhaps a grade under. This coin my go VF35, but I don't think it's an EF coin.

NGC, according to many shops and collectors, are grading stricter than they have in the past. They are many examples here of older grading done by them that appears to be overgraded by a step. Guess word has gotten around and they are trying to correct the issue. I still prefer NGC over PCGS, maybe because they are in my backyard and I have easy access to them....
