On ebay I just ordered a storage system for my Eagles that includes Airtights and a plastic tube that they fit snugly inside. Is there any chance that the coins could discolor or spot in such an air-free atmosphere?

I have mine in tubes and in a safe that I open frequently! They have been there for about 12 months now, and I haven't seen any toning..

I had some 1987 ASEs stored in the original mint tubes since 1987 that were tarnished, but I made the mistake of handling them with my fingers right after I bought them (before storage). I was checking the condition after I bought them.

My new 2011 ASEs I removed from the tubes with cotton gloves and placed them in a glass jar lined with silver cloth and a 3M anti-tarnish strip. The jars are then vacuum sealed with a food saver machine.

Gold is pretty much impervious to oxygen under any conditions that it is likely to encounter in daily use or storage. One of the unique traits of the "noble metals", of which gold is one, is that they do not tarnish. It is this apparently timeless quality that has enthralled people with gold for many centuries. Keep your gold, enjoy it, and don't worry about it corroding or tarnishing. In 100 years, it will be in FAR better condition than you will be.

Ah, in that case then, yes, protect those silver coins from air exposure if you can.

It's probably yet another taboo but... I like to rub my silver coins very lightly with an automotive anti-fog cloth. This puts a VERY thin layer of silicone grease on the coins, which shields the metal from O2 exposure. It is easily removed, if desired, by rinsing the coins in detergent and warm water, followed by a fresh water rinse and pat dry with a soft cotton cloth.

I like playing with all 40 of my random year ASE's without gloves. Then place them back in the tube when I'm done. I did buy the tubes with a few tarnished, spots etc but it doesn't bother me. If I really did want to keep them nice and shiny from the mint, I would probably go the OP's method of storage and implement other methods of preservation.
