I was walking the dog and found an 1884 silver morgan just laying on the street. Its in a protective case and looks brand new. What a day!

Yikes! May have been someones pocket piece. I think that's one of the reasons I haven't carried anything else besides a few Half dollars (A few because they always seem to fall out without me noticing). I want to start carrying a Morgan but I'd hate to lose it. Time to find a Morgan cull to carry hehe.

Easy... lots of street noise + a padded coin that makes a very soft "thud" when it lands.

Something like this is likely to bring the original owner looking for it and offering a reward for its return. The original owner should have a rough idea of where it was lost and an excellent idea of what it looks like.

Obviously I'm in th4e minority, but I feel bad for the true, and now previous, owner. Personally, I couldn't keep it with a clear conscience unless I posted a Coin Found, Call to Identify flyer on the nearest telephone pole. My mind would wander to something like "Some guy might be walking home from his grandfather's funeral with the 1884 Morgan he gave him." Then again, I'm the guy who chased somebody down in the parking lot when they dropped a quarter, then they looked at me like I'm an idiot. After a couple of days though, then it's Whoo hoo!

I'm thinking on the same line as boatman, a call to the local police may be something to think about

If you report it to the police, I think they would give it back to you after a certain period of time if no one claims it... An amazing find... Another nice story attached to a Morgan
