A friend of my wife is a very charming lady in her 80s. She mentioned that she had some silver coins that she wanted to sell, so we went to her place today to look at them. They turned out to be 24 Morgans in good to fine condition. Most are toned a bit from oxidation but a shot of Tarn-X will solve that problem. Most dates are from the 1880s with a couple of 1921s in there. I asked her how much she wanted for these coins and she asked if $10 each was too much. Wow! What a plump little chicken all ready for plucking! I told her that they were worth more than that and offered her $30 each for them. That's less than I could buy them from a dealer but also more than most dealers would pay her, so it seemed a reasonable compromise. It was a good deal for both of us and that's what business is supposed to be. She got more than enough to have her car fixed so is happy with that and I got a good deal too. It would have been very unfortunate if she had tried to sell these to most people. I am sure that they would have been happy to pay her $10 each asking price. Fortunately, we are friends and we both were able to get a better deal out of this. stacka stacka stacka... and the hoard grows...

Good job on the honesty part...I like that.
But I'm with those guys. I wouldn't do the Tarn-X.

Thank you, Ed_B, for giving her a good price for the coins. A while ago, here on CCF, I bought a roll of 40% JFK's. My starting bid was $55, which was $8 below their melt value at the time. I decided to up my bid to the coins' full melt value of $63, because I figured if I sold my silver, I'd want to get melt value for it.

That is a great unexpected addition eh , nice job! Real nice to offer her 20 more, I am sure that was a shock to her and made her day, as she would not have gotten 30 each anywhere else I bet, probably not having the no how or where to do so. She got here car fixed an may have had some left over and got rid of some coins she had no use for, and that is great deal for both parties, 24 Morgan's, major score.... I have my trusty bottle of tarnX right here , so you know my thoughts on that, Polish away, as sometimes you just gotta think outside the box, lol.... I have a gold coin that I could make out the slightest print, as the capsule is easily unscrewable, so no surprise it had been opened and got a tiny print. I spotted some "Odoban oxy surface pet hardwood floor cleaner", as I have three chihuahuas and a Pomeranian, and sure enough I scratched my chin and did the unthinkable an sprayed a bit on a Q-tip , and used the power of liquid oxygen to remove that print, and the coin looks great now, proof like , lol....

That was a very classy thing to do on your part - good job. Plus, you still got the Morgan's at a good price.

Great find, great deal, and a show of great character . Things do not get better than this. And thanks also b/c, IMHO, your handling of this situation is a feather not only in your cap, but in the CCF forum cap also!
