Hey all. Just wondering how many people sell their coin finds on a regular basis, or just keep them for their own personal collections?

I'm in a "have to sell" situation right now. My disablility is about to lose me my house. But I'll be back some day, buying and trading up. Once the coin bug bites you, you can't stop. I'll just be looking at your coins and waiting for things to get better then I'll be selling only so I can get a better coin of the same kind.

The coin I miss most is the 1942/1 Mercury in AU-55 I had to sell. *sigh* I'll just have to keep on trying.

Dang. Sorry Yokozuna. At least coin collecting is a fun hobby as well as an investment.

I dont plan to sell for many years if ever. One day ill pass my collection on to my little one and explain that she is more then welcome to sell but also explain the fundamentals so hopefuly she would sell right. I plan on getting her bit by the bug before she gets to be an adult though. My hopes are she'll keep it for the following generation.

To a certain degree, many collect for the same reasons, collect the same way that I do, and, their collections will end up the same way.

I collect because of the coin. My passion is Lincoln cents. Affordable, plentiful, still in production, and some cool finds are still out there.

Collect problem free coins in XF or higher. Some dates/mintmarks....I have multiples of. Some holes in my album are still empty. I am close, VERY close, to completing the collection.

Where will my collection end up? Well, actually, I will probably sell it off...piece by piece. None of my kids collect. Only one grandchild (10 months old) - I have started a couple collections for....so....it is possible that she will continue on.

I sell some to buy others I need/want. I have probably turned over less than 5% of my collection.

No. Hopefully when I retire I will have time to sort through everything and sell off the duplicates and get the ones I need.

I sell some coins and the money I make from the sales I buy more coins that I need or upgrade. I have large inventory but would rather complete multiple sets than sell. Its not easy to sell coins it takes a certain mentality. That is the difference between collectors and dealers.

I have been selling onesie twosies on ebay but I would rather trade if possible. Trading is more fun.

I don't have a huge number of coins, and haven't bought anything in a couple years. I retired recently, and one of my planned projects is to get everything organised, kinda see just what I've got. Barring some unforeseen financial problem (that can happen to any of us, at any time, as Yokozuna has mentioned), I'll never sell anything. The plan is to pass everything on to my youngest son, who collects a little bit of everything U.S.

I have never sold a coin. I have traded some extra roll-found silver to fill some holes though. For me this is a hobby, one that I am very sentimental about, so I have a difficult time getting rid of anything.

I sell on ecrater, CCF, & ebay; sometimes at shows. Then there are coins in my personal collection I don't plan on selling, I am emotionally attached to them in one way or another.
For me as well, this is mostly a hobby but I really enjoy selling coins, packing them up, getting them in the mail, and seeing someone happy with their purchase (hopefully :)

The only time I have sold my collection was to help raise money for a house purchase. In that case, my entire collection was sold. You can't put a roof over your head with a stack of rare coins!
