...talking about photographing coins, once again.
And, except for the aggravation, frustration, foolishness, and I could go on, but I won't, I am so having fun! How about you?
I did some scanner photography late last week. After some minor details like getting the settings, resolution, sharpness, etc... straightened out, I was pretty happy! For a change.
Although this not really related to coin photography, it is, after a fashion.
http://www.tatu54.com/ToningI was never able to replicate these colors, especially on the 1990
ASE.
The 1993
ASE I never wanted to replicate that color. U.G.L.Y.
The scanner did what I could not do. Extreme close-ups, color correctness, solid, sharp images, etc...
So, on to my questions.
I use the word 'Toning' in describing these coins. I also use the word 'Patina' because that's another word used to describe the color of these coins.
Are they interchangeable or does one mean one thing and the other something different?
The 'black' that is shown on the 1993 specimen is just plain ugly while the goldish toning on the 1990 is somewhat pretty.
Does the gold color add to the value of a coin, or like any problem with a coin (like a scratch) de-value it?
Or is there a different tree I need to be barking up?
As usual, guys, any and all help is appreciated.
I apologize to those on Dial-up. They are large images. I needed to make them that big so people can get an idea of what is going on.
Thanks,
Dale
