Whatever age I am when silver hits $500 an ounce... (I've been saving silver for almost thirty years, may as well hold out for a big payoff!)

Hopefully never, but I'll do it in an emergency if I have to.

Quote: Taking Collection to my Grave! End of story. Not so surprisingly, the most popular answer. I want my collection to stay in the family, so I hope it will be inherited and cherished for what it is. If not, what do I really care? I am no longer here to complain.

well my collection is purely an investment. I plan on selling it later in life, or if it silver/gold shoots up in price. No real set age or date though. When I retired in 41 years at 65, will silver/gold be higher? And even if its higher, is it because the dollar has lost its value?
Heck if I know, lol

Won't happen. When I kick the bucket, my brain's gonna go into a robot, so I'll still have my collection :)

I wanted to say "Taking Collection to my Grave! End of story," but I have sold some items and have come close to liquidating at times as interest has wained a little at times (something I never thought would happen 10 years ago). So, I have no idea.

Chequer: My interest has wained from time to time also. As much as I love this hobby, I found out that I was starting to suffer some burn out. I was getting run down and tired of chasing certain coins to complete a set. For the most part, because I was trying to do too much at the same time. Trying to work on too many incomplete sets at the same time and all the while buying gold and silver bullion. Buying this and selling that so I could trade for these and so on and so forth. All of a sudden that passion and fire was almost gone. What I did was just step back and get away from the hobby for awhile. That really helped me out alot. It was only for about 2 months, but after that amount of time had passed, I started missing it and my desire for coins and collecting was rekindled. Two months may not seem like a long time, but it was enough for me to step back, get away and relax enough to catch some fresh air and start collecting again at a slower pace. There's just something about having an incomplete set that just drives a collector to press on at record speed to complete it. So, maybe this is what you are/or have experienced. Anyway, it helped me. Just thought I would pass this along to anyone that may find it helpful.

I guess I pass it to my son.. He's only 20 months now and can't keep his hands of my coins.. I'm still young and hope that I can enjoy collecting for at least 50 years from now.. btw, I wanna keep the collection together thats why it's the only thing what I don't have to split if I breakup with my "girl"..

I guess none of us really know when we are going to kick the bucket! Perhaps that is a good thing, just makes planning a bit harder.
Maybe I will get an average of the age stats. at the end of this thread, and try to figure out if coin collectors live longer!

65 is the ripe old age for me. Still young enough to do stuff with the money, but old enough to appreciate what I had. If the kids/grandkids are interested (as I suspect they wont be) then I wouldn't sell the entire collecction, but they sure as heck aren't getting all of it. These coins better take me to a few cruises and countries to explore!

If I was to sell it would be when I'm still "young" enough to enjoy the proceeds. Lucky for me, my daughter is a bit of a YN so it's not an issue.
