I had submitted 6 sets of ATB 5 oz (30 coins at a total grading cost of ~$1,800) to pcgs for grading under standard grading service (supposed to be 15 day turnaround but took over 1 month). When I received the email with the grades, they came in surprisingly low. Upon receiving the coins and inspecting, there seems to be quite inconsistent grades. Additionally, several of the holders are scuffed pretty badly, one has a crooked label which is about 30 degrees out of position, and another has black spots inside the holder on the plastic. So aside from receiving grades that seem much lower than they should be and inconsistent, the holders are damaged. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it likely that PCGS customer service will try to make this right in some way? Any advice?

PCGS is usually pretty good at making things right. The crooked label, they will fix, for free... the black spots, are they on the plastic? If so, they will reholder it for you.... take pix and send them in email to customer service.... as far as the grades.... well... you could send an email to David Hall (owner of PCGS) and he can add it to his wall of "misgrading complaints"... probably as far as that will go. Good luck.

Yes the black spots are on the plastic on the interior side of the plastic but not on the coins. 3 or 4 spots about the size of a bb

They should make it right... pix and email, and a note in the package. Describing the errors, and where they should look for them.

What about the long turn around time. Will they give you a partial refund for taking twice as long then the standard time? Just wondering. Thanks, John1

This may not be what you are looking for but I too was not satisfied with my PCGS 5 oz ATB submissions. I has one that had milky spots that were not there when I submitted the coin. One I felt was under graded and one that was over graded. What do you all think? Should this really be a 69DMPL?

I spoke with PCGS and they said I should submit the damaged holder coins back for replacement. The woman on phone said that the grades are accurate, consistent, and won't change, even with regrades...she said they have several graders look at them before a finalizer...I call BS about accurate and consistent ...if I re-submitted some of these unslabbed, I am sure the grade would be different. The MS63DMPL which has a crooked label is better than most of the MS68DMPLs that I received back...one of my 69DMPL has visible marks whereas some of the 68s look flawless...
