Hi

Came across this military note and I noticed there is no date on the note. Does that mean it could of been issued at anytime and any year. Also does anyone know if there is a way to check the serial number that may give the date. Thanks for any info.

I am told that the series is also the year. So the first two digits are 48 so it would be 1948 series printing 1. Hope that info is correct.

According to the Comprehensive Catalog of you S Paper Money these notes were made in the year the series states, however this note according to the catalog was issued on June 20th 1951.
So I would place the information about the year and series being correct, mostly.....

Right you are Mike..... the first two digits in the series number are the year that the note was designed..... the third digit is the sequence of designs that particular year..... MPC, (as well as many currency notes) were often issued years after actual design, approval and printing.... timing of issuance often was dependent on necessity (or lack thereof).

What is your first impression of the book Mike?

That note looks to be in very nice condition spring. How did you happen to come by it?

I actually picked it up at a yard sale. Was actually looking for other things and came across this note along with another military note and a Florida 10 cent note.

Here are the other notes. Not in the best of shape. I was unsure of the Florida note thought it may of been a altered note. The back has what appears to be the remnants of other notes. I was told that it was common back then to reuse old notes to make other notes to save on cost.I tried to see if I could make out what the other notes on the back were just for curiosity but no such luck.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I wish I could find the MPCs I sent home in the 60s. In Kuwait, the exchange service ran out of coins so they issued paper coins that could be redeemed only in the exchange. Never did see MPCs in Kuwait or Iraq.
