Nice addition you have there. I really like the commemorates, lots of different ones out there and if you collect the proofs (like I do) you can assemble most of them for close to melt. These two are some of the more expensive but still attainable.

Wow ... Outstanding coins indeed.

Really like that 2001-D Buffalo Dollar. Believe I see a "D" on the reverse ... correct me if I am wrong.

I know nothing about modern US commemorative ... know a little bit about the classic silver series ... so a few comments and questions if I may ...

I note the obverse of the Buffalo dollar retains the "F" of James Earl Fraser ... original designer of the Buffalo nickel ... assume this is a correct historical linkage?

Wondering about the composition of the dollar ... clad or 90% silver? Appears to be a proof coin based on the photo ... not sure about that as well?

Excellent photos BTW ... truly can see the beauty in those Botanical Garden coins ... I believe I read somewhere they were issued in MS (not proof) state ... and yours are lovely indeed.

Sorry for all the questions ... Excellent coins indeed.

Thanks for sharing them with us.

I should have posted that these are both Uncirulated examples, and yes the buffalo is a "D" mint

I think you know a lot about classic commemoratives and
I really enjoy seeing the coins and information you post.

Information with the coin states that congress approved this coin and specified it be based on the original Buffalo nickel.
With "In God We Trust" added (required by law since 1955)

Modern Commemorative dollars are 90% composition.
The commorative half dollars are clad, except for
the 1982 Washington and the 1993 Bill of Rights
which are also 90%

Thank you for the compliment on the photos.

They do make both proof and UNC versions of the Botanic Gardens dollars, this one is UNC. Many collectors like this coin and currency set, because it comes with the
1997 matte proof nickel. This nickel has a mintage of
25,000. To me it is one of the top nickels I wanted for my collection. Now if I had a no "S" proof like wheezydog's,
I would be very very happy.

I hope to someday have a complete set of uncirculated modern commemorative dollars. These coins you really have to have in hand to really see the beauty in them, of course just my opinion.

I bought the 1997 Botanic gardens coin and currency set.
Because for me I also wanted the 1997 matte proof nickel.

I paid $170 for the set, the price is mostly for the nickel. Grey sheet (CDN) for just the Botanic gardens
dollar is $38 ask.
