I found this one today going through a "Proof Coin Special" I bought on ebay about 8 months ago. It was 20 coins still in the original cellophane. The cost was less than $15 for all 20 coins. The Profile, IN GOD WE TRUST, Date, MM and LIBERTY. I really didn't expect to find anything in this little pile of Proofs cut out of the sets for good coins. I checked it and sure enough, it's a 1968-S 1C DDO FS-101 (FS-027.5), CA(?) (Proof)! My wife is great at seeing doubled features and the first thing she said was that the profile was doubled. PCGS shows this as a RARE Proof DDO with less than 250 examples known. It also says that it's an under rated variety. Prices run all over the range, so I have no idea of the value, but it made my day Fields are almost perfect, good separation of the device is a CA, but I don't think it'll make DCAM. I'm hoping for a PR-68. Let me know what you think. I'm still working with Proof photos with my camera and the reverse looks the same to the eye with no problems, but came out really poor in the photos. I'll work on it to see it I can get a shot that looks right. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Appears spectacular from here ... Any way you can get a detail photo of the doubled legends ... just so we can see the actual DDO seperation? David

The images are taken too close to tell what is there. The light sources are also a problem. Only one light source will show what is there. Shadow/light make an image. With too many light sources it floods the coin (especially proof coins which need even less light) and all you end up with is glare. Try removing an unwanted light source and get it down to on light source, then we can see what is really there.

Once we get moved, I'll have access to better lenses. I also hope to get new equipment soon. My cameras were made to shoot cars going 200mph and take 8 shot per second. that's not much use with coins. I had to sell my FX sensor camera, but I'll be upgrading again soon. I also HAVE to get a macro lens. The Nikon 105mm-macro looks nice and I may go with it. Until then I'll be around, but not taking any shots of coins. The PCs with be the last things that get packed.

Try taking a photo of the coin getting shot out of a skeet launcher. :)

Here is a DDO I found a few years back. You might look for this kind of doubling: It may/may not be from the same die, but it will give you an idea of what to look for on a 1968 doubled die. I've found examples with the same type of doubling on business strikes as well:

Seal006, A skeet launcher! Of course! I could get 8 of 10 shots (Camera) before it I had to shoot it with a 12 gauge. It would be hard to locate the remains after the shot, but the photos should come out perfect!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how they come out.

Wow, if this is a double die, and you need THAT much magnification to see it, I will NEVER find a double die of any kind :S
My wife says I need to "earn" enough money selling the coins I find in order to buy any "equipment" to further my hobby.
Great find though!

Coop,
The top set of shots are almost perfect for my coin. The "R" in TRUST is the big one. Thanks for posting them.
My wife's dad is a professional photographer and has a ton of equipment he said I could use when we get to NJ. I'm hoping to get the new Nikon D3X *24.5 megapixel* and a good macro lenses. I was shooting with a Nikon D700. It has an FX sensor and was fast for motor sports work. It's gone now. I'm selling everything I own for the move.
Time for a fresh start in a new place. It's also only a mile from the beach, so I'll be checking out things with the metal detector.
