I know it is the Liberty Seated, and I think that it is a quarter, but I am not sure. Did someone customize the back?

A picture would be nice but it seems either your picture wasn't uploaded properly or the yahoo hyperlink doesn't allow you to direct link.

its a love token, it is a Seated quarter that someone has engraved a name/letters of a name in the coin and given it to their loved one or kept it in rememberance of the loved one. I think jewelers used to sale them and engrave them for people back in the day but I am not 10% certain. I have a few love tokens here but my wife is asleep and I cant get to them to show, mine are on a Seated dime. here is a Seated dime love token on ebay that is in better condition than yours so you can see what they look like http://cgi.ebay.com/1884-Seated-Dim...SH_W0QQitemZ130041258075QQihZ003QQcategoryZ4370QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem if you look on ebey there are usually qyite a few of them on there

Most love tokens will have a hole in them so they could be worn on a necklace or something like that. This one, judging by the wear on the reverse engraving, appears to have led its life as a pocket piece.

here is the Seated dime love token I was refering to last night and as far as value, I think I paid like 2.00 for it. I do not collect Love tokens but I do usually buy one if it has a family members intiials on it. I agree that yours was a pocket peice of some sort because it is even hard to tell what the coin once said on the reverse and they usually (even though the obverse is usually worn)have crisp detailed letters that have been engraved on the reverse
