I have tried and tried to get my scans that crisp. Can I ask how you do it?

That's a very nice seated half. Sometimes scans take away the color is it toned in any way? Again beautiful example.

I don't see any wear, just some darkening of the obverse fields which may indicate the coin has seen very brief circulation. The obverse shows some marks and hairlines but they seen pretty random, not like the result of any cleaning. This beauty should grade AU-58 at minimum. Depending on the luster qualities (not visible in these scans) it might actually be mint state in which case an MS-63 grade seems possible.

Very nice, congratulations!

Hi

I use an older HP Scanjet 3400C with even older software
(HP Precision Scan LTX) Seems to work pretty decent all these years. It works O.K. on some coins and others not so well.
You can see the light blue card stock paper that I put over the coin instead of just using the white scanner cover. I scan at 600 d.p.i most of the time. Only thing lacking is that the coin appears slightly darker on the scan than in hand and also some detail is lost. You lose that 3D effect
more so than in pics. (even though pics. do not really show in 3D :) You know what I mean. Depth I guess is what I mean't. You can then adjust the final scan (after saving/cropping it) with the software if it needs some sharpening, contrast or brightness etc. You try to get it
as close as you can to the in hand look. It is tough though
for getting exact grades and luster etc. on a coin.

No toning at all by the way. Most likely at one time or another it had some sort of a light cleaning. That's what most others say at least about most any coin. Especially older dates/types. I just recently sold an AU50 Seated dollar
anacs. When the coin was raw in a flip every dealer I showed it to said it was cleaned. I though differently. They were all wrong. :)

Thanks all.
Yes, as soon as I get the proper grade or close anyway,
it will be sold. I will offer it up on here first naturally.
Another one of my stepdads coins that I have to sell for my Mom. I went over it with my 10X loupe a dozen times and cannot
see any wear anywhere. It has some clashing also going on both obv. and rev. Obv. showing part of the eagles talon area
and the rev. showing an area around her arm. Not much luster left so who knows if it will make 60. I gave it AU58 min. myself. Most likely will price it accordingly.

I was thinking AU-55 but if it has no luster the TPG's may drop the grade down to AU-50. It is a very beautiful coin any way you look at it

What I really need to do is to get a good look at some
high AU/MS coins with varying degrees of luster to get
a better idea. I see there is quite a diff. in premium between
AU50 and 58. Having the coin in hand (which makes a world of difference) I cannot see anything under an AU58 details on this coin. Even a few years ago when I first saw this coin
i was not even thinking AU period but trying to decide whether
it was a 61 or 62 (detail wise)
I'm at odds lately with the TPG's. Not happy with there ups and downs and labeling etc. Not much sense wasting money on it
if it comes back AU50. Guess I will let the prospective buyer be the judge. I have no emotional attachment to this coin so
anyones opinion does not reflect on me. Nor does it deflect :)
To me it looks like a very very nice coin. Like what a coin is supposed to look like almost 150 yrs. later if it was taken care of properly and not exposed to circulation. Maybe not drop dead gorgeous with tons of makeup and fancy jewelry (luster) but a gently aged well looker :)
